One of the first things the propaganda machine of an invading army does before the invasion is to demonize the enemy. They become gooks, towel heads, terrorists etc., rather than other human beings, living life with all it's challenges, on our Mother Earth, while hurtling through space.
I still remember the irony on the night that Iraq was invaded, with the "Shock and Awe" attack, that the city being bombed was quite peaceful, beautiful orderly and clean. This didn't jive with the story of oppression that I had been given, with stories of poverty and squalor among the populace, while the ruling elite lived in splendor. I'm not doubting the control and terror tactics used by the rulers, but am doubting the extreme to which we were told that the effect upon the populace had. When I look at the pictures of Baghdad now, I would never guess at the beauty that once was their before we invaded.
Now our government's propaganda machines are demonizing Iran with the obvious intent of invading if some abstract requirements are not met.
